Two of the young and delightful volunteers posed for a photo session during the Help-Portrat event held in Macomb, Illinois held in December 2015. I was using my new 50mm f/1.8 lens that I had bought specifically for this event.

The shadows playing across the rolling terrain at this green on the back nine of the beautiful Harry Mussatto Golf Course at Western Illinois University enticed me to take this shot (you thought I was talking about taking a golf shot, didn't you?). ツ The course architect was Ken Killian.
I had been invited by the University's Golf Pro to take pictures of the course... and in turn, I asked my fellow colleagues in the WIU Hot Shots photography group to come along. I'm looking forward to doing this again in the springtime.

The beautiful flower on this Peace Lily (a Spathiphyllum) opened up just days before Easter. The plant was a gift commemorating the life of my dear sweet wife, Elaine, who passed away in March. I can't help but wish she were here to see it.
To create this shot, I taped a piece of wax paper (the kind used for baking) on the window glass behind the plant and then used a silver reflector to cast better light onto the blossom. It is a simple technique but it worked well... after all, it's all about the light, isn't it?

14th Annual PGI Boat Parade
The Punta Gorda Boat Parade occurs each year on the Saturday night before Christmas. This year, it was the 14th annual parade, which occurs entirely in the extensive, protected network of PGI sailboat canals. Boats are decorated with lights and many have music, carolers and even dancers on them as they parade down a 7.5 mile route where the canal walls and homes are decorated with Christmas tree lights. There is no judging--and everyone has a great time. Parties are thrown in the houses along the canal system as bystanders and crews interact.

Built in 1866 to carry horse-drawn wagon traffic over Henderson Creek, the Oquawka Wagon Covered Bridge now is restricted to foot traffic. It is located just a couple miles south of Oquawka, Illinois and is one of only five remaining covered bridges in Illinois... I eventually want to photograph them all.
