Minutes before the explosions were set off, I grabbed my wife's camera and walked down to the end of the culesac to shoot this video. The voices are some of my neighbors... my only word was "Whoa!" The sudden, loud series of explosions startled me and I lost aim with the camera momentarily. Despite the noise, I was told that the amount of dynamite used would fit on a coffee table.
From where we were standing, we could only see the top eight stories of this twenty-story building. Built in 1967, Higgins Hall, a 20-story residential hall on the campus of Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, was imploded at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, 2017. FAQs regarding the demolition can be found at www.wiu.edu/student_services/housing/specials/higgins/faq...
