In my garden. La Ceja, Colombia; 2.300 meters above sea level.

Coereba flaveola ( Bananaquit / Silga mielera)

The Banaquit has a slender, curved bill, adapted to taking nectar from flowers. While feeding, the Banaquit must always perch as it cannot hover like a hummingbird.

Diglossa sittoides -male-
(Rusty Flowerpiercer / Picaflor canela)

Taken in La Ceja, Colombia.

Nothing wrong with its bill. The hooked, upturned bill is used to puncture the bases of flowers for the purpose of feeding on nectar.

The Rusty Flowerpiercer is a small tanager of South American mountains. The species is found in forest, edge habitat, and gardens between 1500 and 3000 meters from the coastal mountains of Venezuela south along the Andes to northern Argentina. Total length, both sexes: 11 cm.

In my garden. La Ceja, Colombia; Central Andes, 2300 meters above sea level.

The name " red butterfly " ("mariposa colorada" in Spanish) comes from the orange-red coloring present in its wings. It is a species that can be found up to 4.000 meters. It has a wide geographical distribution, as it is found in Colombia , Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and Argentina. Its distribution is Andean, that is, along the Andean mountain range.

La Ceja, Colombia.

There are about 250 different species of pelargoniums and hundreds of newer cultivars. Most of these species are indigenous to South Africa, and are found mainly - although not exclusively - along the east and west coasts and the Cape peninsula.
