Years ago a big state-owned collective farm was once located here. I can still recall dozens of cows grazing happily on the bank of a small, natural canal flowing from the nearby lake. There were some houses and small blocks of flats built in the nearby forest, there was a shop and a bus stop, too. For years many people had been working safely there.
Today some of them still stay but the farm, storage buildings and the shop has turned into empty shells where the only visitor is the wind howling through the broken windows.
The area, with its winding, dusty country roads, marshalnds and meadows, dotted with patches of forests and small oxbow lakes - all bordered by the mighty river flowing by, has become a heaven for cross-country bikers, nordic walkers and hunters.
