Some walk little fluffy things, I walk my cameras. Less fluffy, but more fun.

Where I've done my wash for the last few decades, lugging my stuff through the streets of Manhattan, rain, blizzard, or heat wave all.

The season goes by so quickly, or maybe it just feels that way because I'm always in a rush to buy gifts and send them out so that they'll arrive in time. From Thanksgiving until Christmas, there never feels to be many moments of calm. It might be psychological, but it always feels so rushed, no down time where I can sit and enjoy Christmas music, which I love, or an old classic holiday film, which I also love, cozy on my couch with my twinkly lights. Instead, I do my best 'getting in the spirit' after it's all over. All those things I feel I have no time for in Nov/Dec, I do in January; the whole month. I hate when everyone takes it all down. Inside I'm saying "Noooooooo! Not yet!" I want everyone to be on board with my way, but well... such is life. :)

Here's the other night on my walk in the neighborhood. This window made me happy.

Taken a week and a half ago on Christmas evening. I'd gone out for a walk to try to shake the holiday blues which started to settle in once the sun set. I'd made it through the day fine despite spending it alone due to the pandemic which has changed how many of us had to celebrate this year, but when things got dark, it became more difficult to keep my smile. A walk around the neighborhood in the chilly air always helps in such a case, so, into the silent night, (holy night, too!) I went, camera in hand. I listened to my footsteps, watching the headlights from the random car passing, and took in the sights of the place where I live, which I love so much, and counted my many, many blessings.

There’s a party going on all around him; people throwing caution to the wind, but ‘no thanks’, he says, ‘I’m going to stay right here by myself where it’s safe until this whole thing passes.’ Of course it’s not as fun, he knows that. We all do. ‘So what?’ he asks, ‘Who said you’re entitled to the maximum fun every day? Sweet fancy Moses, behave people! Make your own fun and stop your whining.’

[ABOUT THIS ARTWORK: This started out as an acrylic on canvas painting which I never liked. Painting men is not something I do much and often they come out looking too girly. I’d scanned it into my computer some time ago, and recently worked on it digitally. From that one ugly canvas, I ended up with dozens of new faces. Many have stories which came to me as I painted. I’ll share some of them here, more on Instagram]
