Die Orang-Utans (Pongo) sind eine Primatengattung aus der Familie der Menschenaffen (Hominidae). Von den anderen Menschenaffen unterscheiden sie sich durch ihr rotbraunes Fell und durch ihren stärker an eine baumbewohnende Lebensweise angepassten Körperbau. Sie leben auf den südostasiatischen Inseln Sumatra und Borneo; die Bestände beider Inseln werden heute als zwei getrennte Arten – Borneo-Orang-Utan (Pongo pygmaeus) und Sumatra-Orang-Utan (Pongo abelii) – geführt. The Orang-Utan (Pongo) are a genus of the family of great apes (Hominidae). They differ from the other great apes by their reddish-brown coat and her physique more adapted to an arboreal lifestyle. They live in the South East Asian islands of Sumatra and Borneo; the stocks of both islands are today as two separate species - Borneo Orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus) and Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) - led.
