I took a ridiculous number of pictures on January 3rd, for some reason, so I'll divide them into two parts. First we went to a former plantation in Louisiana called Houmas House. It was really beautiful.

Churros with soft serve and chocolate, served up by a girl wearing the fairly ubiquitous "strap-on sneeze-guard." There was a food fair type of thing where you could buy different foods from vendors. Pretty cool.

We walked around Olympic Park for a while in Beijing. I'd read that some of the installations from the 2008 Olympics were abandoned and falling apart already, but that must be for weird sports like kayaking, because the main area with the national stadium (bird's nest) and the "water cube" are incredibly filled with tourists, even though the places don't really "do" anything.
