This week I'm hoping to take pictures related to next Sunday's upcoming presidential election.
Since I got here about three and a half years ago, this will be my first election in Costa Rica. It's a bit different from the U.S., especially in adornments. Everyone says that this year has been really subdued compared to usual, though.
It's very common to see flags representing the different parties, hoisted up on to tall bamboo sticks. These two flags were on a house I passed in Rincon de Zaragoza de Palmares de Alajuela, on the way to work yesterday.
The yellow and red flags represent the PAC, the Citizen's Action Party, whose candidate is Otton Solis.

This is another picture related to the upcoming election. One of the candidates is Laura Chinchilla, representing the National Liberation Party, the current president's party. It was very hard to find a poster of her that didn't have paint thrown all over it. In fact, I couldn't find any in Palmares.

A bull wandered into our yard yesterday and was eating our grass. I had to chase it away with a broom (it's the dry season, after all, and I also didn't want to deal with a bunch of cow crap when I cut the grass). This kind of thing happens quite frequently here, so even though it's not the best picture, it's still a good representative for Costa Rica today, so I decided on it for Picture of the Day.

This is a flag representing the Movimiento Libertario party, whose candidate is named Otto Guevara. He attracted a lot of attention earlier in the campaign, but his popularity has waned. He seems to be what the Americans would call "a slick asshole." And the haircut doesn't help that reputation.
