St Ives in Cornwall England was bathed in a quiet violet glow as the sky lightened ahead in the final minutes before dawn.

I woke up early on the first day of our trip to Cornwall as the weather was supposed to be good. When a weather forecast in England says that you take it with a pinch of salt, but seeing as how rare good weather is, you still wake up to peek through the curtains. In this case the forecast was accurate and I reluctantly dragged my tired self out and down to the waterfront to watch the sun rise. While the sunrise itself wasn't great (there were clouds low to the horizon where the sun was rising), the view in the opposite direction was lovely. Serene, quiet and a deep blue everywhere except for the lightening sky above.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, there weren't many people out and about. Just a few friendly fishermen and another photographer with whom I chatted as we waited for the light.

A few colourful flowers cling on to the last memories of summer by Trevose Head lighthouse on the north coast of Cornwall.

After a lovely day of intermingling sunshine and dark clouds which provided a dramatic backdrop for our walk along the northern Cornish coast, I was hoping for an equally impressive sunset. Unfortunately a low lying bank of clouds blocked the sun at the key moment and despite my best efforts to run around the craggy coastline to find a position with a good composition I had no luck. While on the hike back to the car, however, I by chance looked over my shoulder and saw a curve of clouds moving over Trevose Head in a shape mirroring the coastline below making a previously forgettable scene into something worth capturing.

Hidden in a quiet glen in Northern Cornwall and around a gentle curve in the path carved through the valley by the Trevillet river lies a spectacular waterfall.

This twenty metre high waterfall has to be the most unusual waterfall I've ever seen. The upper reaches comprise a chute leading into a cascade that then flows through a hole in the rock. I must admit I'm not exactly sure how erosion ended up with the waterfall in its current shape but I guess that adds to the mysterious appeal of the place.

There's a lot of myth and legend around this wooded area near Tintagel. One myth suggests that in the sixth century, St Nectan (after whom the glen and waterfall are named) had a hermitage above the waterfall, and rang a silver bell to warn ships of the dangers of offshore rocks at the mouth of the Rocky Valley during storms. Like much of this part of Cornwall, it is also linked with Arthurian legend.

Taking this photo was fun! The area is a lot more cramped than this photo makes it seem, and you need to stand in the plunge pool up to your ankles to even see the waterfall. In order to get a good view of it, you need to walk closer and deeper, and with the force of the water being confined to such an enclosed space, there is a lot of swirling mist around that soaks your camera and you. On the bright side, these water droplets did show up as a beam of light coming down from the top of the waterfall.
