Gondoliers each seem to have a place where they moor their gondola for the night. Some of them had pretty cosy 'sleeping' locations!
Oh, and Venice is really beautiful in the early morning light -- well worth waking up early for.

I imagine that if I went back 50 years with my digital camera, the photos I'd take wouldn't be too different to those I took in 2007. I guess this is part of the charm of the sinking city.

Seen on a derelict street while wandering aimlessly on Murano island. This window (and house) seemed to have been abandoned and was in a state of disrepair.

The first thing I noticed when I visited Venice is just how hard it is to find your way around. Even with a good sense of direction it is possible to get pretty lost as many roads end abruptly or lead straight to a canal with no means to cross over! To make matters worse, the roads are extremely narrow.
