The entrance to the Hall of Supreme Harmony in Beijing's Forbidden City is the most imposing of the several gates in the 15th century imperial palace. This is what 14 years and a million workers can build out of wood and marble.

The Forbidden City is visited by throngs of tourists and so to get a photo without them, I needed to wait until closing time when the stewards were shepherding people to the multiple exits at the periphery of the walled city. After stalling one of the stewards who was gesturing to me in Chinese that I should move along by showing him my pictures for the day I took 5 handheld photos that I merged in Photoshop to remove the last few tourists who remained.
