when one door closes, another does not open.
rather, a multitude of doors appear. they're all closed though.
a door does not open unless you make the minimal effort of at least seeing if it's locked or not.
and if it's not, just because you opened it doesn't mean you have to walk through. you can always sneak a peek to make sure nothing's going to bite your head off.
Or to make sure something just might.
the latter has always been more fun.
they lead to situations.
looking for experiences doesnt come close. it's just the anti-materialist version of buying shit you dont need. you'll always chase the idea you've been sold of what "an experience" is. bigger, faster, more, all available nicely packaged straight off the shelf.
situations though, they're random, risky, and unpredictable. and tend to come with a few nice pics along the way.
everything that makes life worth living.

you'll have to move and the jiggling begins.
tiny jolts of lightning travel up to your brain with every jostle.
it's funny how you get used to it. move, settle, breathe, and move again. tolerance seems to be like a muscle,
maybe not, maybe it's more like addiction.... first a little, then more, and more, I'm cool, I can handle it, don't worry.
until you cant.
but then, the high as never about getting the high.
the high was the dance on the edge where you're flying just before the plunge.

note to self:
check your fucking meter, dumbass!
this is fuji's x-ray film. I normally shoot it at ISO100.
I forgot to check my meter. It was set to 400, ffs.
The film came out thin, but what was curious was that it developed at it's usual speed and then seemed to stop. It didnt go all black like you can sometimes get when you overcook regular film.
Since this was by inspection I gave it another minute, then another, then another,.... then it just didnt seem to change anymore.
I was curious as to whether it could do 400 decently. now I know.
200 might be decent in a pinch.
I'm rusty, and there's nothing like a good ol' cockup to humble you back to earth.

over confidence is what gets you into trouble.
I'm a strong swimmer. I knew the pool well and I knew it was a bit shallow. I knew I could pull it off.
I couldn't.
I'm lucky it was just one tooth.
it's what happens when you grow up a fat little boy, sucky at running sports, but you realize that your blubber becomes an edge when it comes to water.
you get over confident.
occasionaly, over the past 30 years, I have thought of getting it fixed.
but i also like telling the story.
----------------------------------
this is x-ray film through an rb67. there's a glow that it gives off that I've fallen in love with. straight out of the developing tray, no post other than levels.
I do have to be more careful manhandling the film in the dark.

About 7 years ago a student's medical practice went digital for their x-rays. I gladly gave the xray film a new home.
This is some tough film stock (kinda, it does scratch easy). I didn't store it properly. It sat in my cupboard here in southern japan. Summers are brutally humid and winters get down to zero. Old Japanese houses still think insulation is a fad. That's why I'm dressed so warmly in this.
Also, HC110 is just as hardy. A friend going back to Vietnam gave me their left over stock,... I want to say 3 years ago. Stored in the same conditions as the film above.
Rated at ISO 100.
Developed by inspection using a $3 LED light that does red.
Why did I sit on this for so long?
Because no fucker told me that the RB67 has a 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch sheet film back.
That comes to 6.5cm x 9cm according to Mamiya. But they lie. 6.5cm wouldn't fit into the holder, so I cut it down to 6.4cm.
I tried 4x5 a couple of times, it was fun but not my cup of tea. This RB67, despite its heft, is very much better suited to what I like to do.
Bertha, as in Big Bertha, who I'll affectionately refer to from now on as Bertie, did splendidly.
This fat bottomed girl is going to make my rockin' world go round.
Because, her backside, ample though it may be, it rotates, RB, rotating back, see what I did there,....
I'll see myself out.
