Yeah, I'm not sure if it could stand on its own, either. But as far as I can plan virtually, the legs are meant to accommodate a fair amount of weight hence all the technic.

A number of sources give the height of the All Terrain Scout Transport as being between 6 and 9 meters tall. Any of these could be correct given the vehicle is a walking machine and does not maintain a fixed height while operating!
As well, in reviewing differences between representations of the vehicle, not only between different appearances in various Star Wars media, but between the original movies themselves, it is worth considering that a number of variants may exist in service of the Galactic Empire’s planetary armies.
A nuisance of creating models with LEGO parts is the want to include the iconic but awkward minifigure body. If a LEGO AT-ST walker were to fit two minifigure pilots side by side and maintain accurate proportions, the model would be very large. I opt to scale my models to the height of the minifigure rather than the width even if this means sacrificing the satisfaction of having a LEGO figurine at the controls.

The proportions of the cabin on the Endor model are the same, but the legs appear longer and more slender than those on the models actually seen in the forest battle sequence.

Assault variant - Hoth appearance.

The cabin extends farther back and is wider, perhaps to accommodate survival systems. This makes the cabin look squatter and more streamlined. It has two side-by-side, closed viewports. In addition to longer chin blasters, the circular blisters on which are mounted additional armaments are greater in diameter.

Features a single heavy laser canon as described in Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels, though it is likely the assault variant mentioned in that instance references a Joe Johnston sketch of a different vehicle that was recycled for use in the EU (as “Advanced Raider”) and later in Star Wars Rebels (as “Defense Pod”).

By far one of my favorite vehicles from the prequels. The AAT is such an unusual take on a main battle tank, and I think it works really well.

After the Battlefront 2 Beta, I really wanted to try my hand at an AAT. I'm not thrilled with the transition between the top plate and the curve towards the nose. However, I think the rest makes up for it.

I have a few more models to upload from my last photo session. I didn't want to upload all at the same time. Hopefully I'll be able to start regularly posting again. I forgot how much I enjoyed working on and posting models.
