So tiny! And so cute! Part of an exhibit by the Adobe Wildlife Center (www.azwildlifecenter.net) of non-releaseable rescues at the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival (www.birdyverde.org.)
Just noticed that I shot this at only 1/10th of a second. Pretty impressive IS, considering this was hand-held in a dark tent, in natural light. The catch-light in his eye is from the open doorway of the tent.

One of the locations for the Verde Valley Birding and Nature Festival, which starts today. This is actually a sewage treatment facility which provides a habitat for birds and animals. As you can see, it is a very beautiful place and it provides excellent viewing opportunities for birds and waterfowl. Except for those darn Red-winged Blackbirds that hide in the reeds. :)

I had an awesome ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad, yesterday! This is just a preview of the beauty of the canyon. The Verde River is more like a stream, but it is definitely surrounded by Verde (Sp. for green.)
The engines have Bald Eagles painted on them, which I presume is because they have had nesting pairs with fledglings in the canyon in past years. Unfortunately, they don't this year. We did see Red-tails and a Black Hawk (a first for me,) though.

That this shot turned out at all, given that the Red-tail was so far away, that I was using center focus and that it was shot from a moving train, on which I was barely able to stand. It was impossible to get the center focus point on the bird, so I just fired off a whole bunch of shots, and surprisingly, this one is passable, due to his bright tail.
