This poor little guy was hit by a motorcycle and has a badly broken right wing. During our workshop at Bosque del Apache, Hawks Aloft (hawksaloft.org/) brought six of their educational rescues for us to photograph.

It was great fun for us, but a little sad, too, because all of the birds are wild animals that were impaired in one way or another and would not be able to survive on their own in the wild. They do get to live in individual homes, though, and bond with their people.

I missed the story on how this bird came to Hawks Aloft, but he probably wasn't local, since this species doesn't normally come as far west as New Mexico.
