Meet my new puppy, "Roso", short for Sabroso, which is a type of chili, the English translation of the variety meaning "tasty". Chili was the breeder's theme for this litter, because the sire's name was Chile, who was probably given that name because the breeder lives in Las Cruces, NM, the Chili Capital of the World.
Chile was a great and famous show, obedience, and hunting dog, that produced many fine puppies, while he was alive. The breeder decided to freeze his semen, some of which was used for this litter, 18 years later. Chile was also my dog, Cielo's, grandfather, which makes Roso his uncle. You'd have to see them together to get an idea of how ridiculous this seems. Roso will be just 9 weeks old, next Sunday, and Cielo will be 12 in August. My first search dog, Hopi, was from a litter that was a repeat of the breeding that produced Chile, so our connections go way back.
OK, so I haven't been spending all my time trying to fix our Internet problems. We also made a trip to Phoenix and back, in one day, to pick him up. Yesterday, when the alarm went off, I felt really sleepy, but I figured it was just due to the lack of sleep from the night before. But, when I went downstairs and fed all four dogs, I noticed that the wrong show was on TV. It took me some time to figure out that the alarm was still set for 2:00 AM, but I was glad to be able to go back to bed and get a couple more hours sleep, especially since I decided to take Roso to bed with me. He squirmed and squirmed for a couple of minutes, but soon went sound asleep. I've never had the opportunity to sleep next to a more cuddly puppy than Roso.

My new puppy, at the Cabela's in Glendale, AZ, where we met the breeder to pick him up. It was 103° there, but nobody seemed to mind. Roso has made the transition from his previous family to ours really well. He's already house-broken, has great bite-inhibition, knows how to sit, and only chews a little (on just about everything he can reach ;-) ).

What a sweet face! As far as I know, she still doesn't have a name, other than Miss Pink. I'd be hard pressed, myself, to find the name of a chili to go with her feminine charm.
As the puppies were being raised, the breeder tied pieces of ribbon of different colors on each one, so that she could tell them apart. Roso was purple, then there was an orange one and a black one, in addition to pink. The breeder had a very hard time deciding which of the puppies to keep and I can certainly see why. She ended up deciding on orange, but pink was a close second.

Here's a link to a video of the puppies, when they were just two weeks old: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mC6AFVp9as4. (Click the link on the page for the second half.) I think I can tell which one is Roso, even without a ribbon. Here's another one at 3 1/2 weeks: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIziFCAhqF4.

Doesn't he look great in his new purple and white collar? That's a reflection on his lower lip, not an extra row of teeth. One row is quite enough, thank you very much. Savina, formerly Miss Orange, is in the background, along with Miss Pink's new owner.
Be sure to click on the magnifying glass to the right, just above this image, or just click on this image, for a better view. It's going to be hard to remember that I don't need to add views on black, anymore, due to Flickr's new interface, but not as hard as losing all my Greasemonkey scripts. Hope they come up with fixes, soon, because I otherwise like the new interface. Now, if Flickr could only fix Explore so that I and more of my contacts could get on it more often. Even once in a while would be an improvement.

I saw Roso standing next to some Allium, somewhere on the way home from picking him up in Arizona and thought that it made a nice color combination with his collar, so I took him out to our garden for a photo shoot when we got home. Had I known that he was going to eat them, I probably wouldn't have posed him there, because Allium might be poisonous to dogs, since it is related to onions.
That's Pride of Madeira in the background, which we planted to try to attract hummingbirds, after I saw how many were feeding on them up at Huntington Central Park. It almost died when we planted it, but it seems to have come back from the trauma. Since Roso's kennel name is Poquito, this shot might be called the Pride of Poquito.
