Every time I go to the Zoo, I see something new and this was one of the more colorful surprises. The immense size and the heavy cover in the walk-through aviaries provide a lot of cover for the birds and quite a challenge for photographers. I had to shoot this one hand-held, because he was directly below the bridge I was standing on. As he was quite a distance away (about 20 feet, straight down) and as it was pretty dark inside the aviary (the 2X extender I use only allows the lens to open to 5.6), the image stabilization on my lens really helped out, as did clinging to the railing for dear life.
