I didn't know if this was a wild duck or a captive one, because there was no sign for it. After a long search on the Internet, I finally figured out what it is and that it is captive. I suppose the leg band might have been my first clue, but sometimes wild birds are tagged, too. Anyway, though common in central Europe and central Asia, we don't have any in North America, so this was a first (or a lifer, as birders call it) for me.
What looks like an unusual swimming pattern was actually just a leg stretch. Either that, or he was showing off his color-coordinated leg band.

Thought about removing the feather on his bill in Photoshop, but decided against it, since it's natural. These birds spend a lot of time preening and I'm sure the feather was the result of that activity.

When I didn't find a sign with these beautiful geese on them, I assumed they were wild, but after extensive research on the Internet, I was able to identify them, and I found out that they are a rare large goose with a natural breeding range in inland Mongolia, northernmost China, and southeastern Russia. The Wild Animal Park and the San Diego Zoo are full of pleasant surprises like this.
