But it was worth the wait. The blooms on this plant opened just this morning. What luck -- they opened on a weekend, when I don't have to work.

This photo is dedicated to Mike Jones, because like him, this cactus is a little prickly and also because I know that pink is Mike's favorite color. There's something else about it that reminds me of him, but I can't quite put my finger on it (not that I want to).

The more I look at this photo, the more I think Parental Guidance might be in order. I swear I didn't intentionally compose this shot to make it look this way. I wonder if Christmas cacti are related to anthuriums.

My wife, Jan, who is a spinner and a weaver (though not at the same time), got this cotton plant so that she could spin the cotton into yarn. I haven't seen any yarn from it, yet, but then, how many dish towels does one need?

This bloom was above my head and facing up, so I needed to find a way to weigh it down, so that I could capture the inside, which caused me to come up with a new use for the loupe that I use to review photos on my camera. I just hung the strap over the stem and looped the loupe through the loop and let it hang from the plant.
