A Young Mountain Sheep navigating a steep rocky hill on a chilly sunny winter day in Yellowstone National Park.

I've visited Yellowstone four separate times covering all four seasons and immensely enjoyed every minute during each visit. Hope to visit again in the future!

The Columbia Black-Tailed Deer is one of three subspecies of the Mule Deer. The other two are the Sitka Black-Tailed Deer, and the Rocky Mountain Mule Deer. The Columbia Black-tailed Deer is found throughout Vancouver Island and the western slopes of the coastal mountain range from the United States border to rivers Inlet. Their range does not extend too far inland before the Rocky Mountain Mule Deer takes over.
The Columbia Black-Tailed Deer is the mid size of the three subspecies. The Sitka Black-Tailed Deer is the smallest and the Rocky Mountain Mule Deer are the largest of the subspecies.

On a chilly sunny morning a large healthy Ram Bighorn sheep can be seen standing proudly at the top of a snow covered rock cliff.
Bighorn Sheep were once widespread throughout western North America. By the the 1920's, bighorn sheep were eliminated from Washington, Oregon, Texas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and part of Mexico. Today, populations have been re-established through transplanting sheep from healthy populations into vacant areas.
In Yellowstone National Park there are fewer than 500 Bighorn Sheep with about 250 in the northern range.

Note;
You know its really cold when despite the sunshine, tiny sporadic snowflakes fall from the cold deep blue sky!

Always aware, a Bighorn Mountain Sheep Ram peers over the rock cliff before descending down the jagged cliff to lower grounds where there is more vegetation to feed on.
