This is an image taken on a fabulous night of lightning. It was the second day of storm chasing and this was the first time I got to stand quietly behind the tripod and really contemplate the storms I was shooting. Before the trip, I'd seen lots of nighttime lightning shots with this pinky/magenta colour and thought, "That can't be real!", but it is (though the blue was seen much better by the camera than by my eye). I could see the pink flashes with my naked eye. The wind was whipping from behind me, so I couldn't hear or see any of my companions. and felt almost as if I was standing alone in front of that storm.
I've been out of town for a week, so sorry to everyone if I've missed commenting on your images.

In May, 2017 I went storm chasing in Tornado Alley. Tornado Alley, which stretches from Texas through to Nebraska, is the area of the U.S. which gets the most severe weather, and the most tornadoes, every spring. Over 8 days, I chased storms through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and New Mexico. What an incredible adventure it was! If you'd like see more images I took while storm chasing, take a look at
my Storm Chasing album.
I tried my hand at time lapse on this trip. If you'd like to see the time lapse film I made, it's
on YouTube in 4K and
on Flickr, too.
