Namibia Untamed
Northern Lights Finale - With Arild Heitmann

If you lost a Rocket Blower while shooting in Hawaii in the Spring of 2013... I found it, and no you can't have it back.

It was the strangest thing to be several miles out to this ocean entry which seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by extremes of lava, heavy waves, toxic plumes of gas, and steaming rocks of fresh earth... then out of nowhere this little Rocket Blower comes floating up in a wave and lands at my feet. I was with my good friends Bruce Omori, Tom Kualii and Miles. I asked them if they had lost one, but nobody claimed it, and there wasn't another photographer for five miles in any direction.

I like to think that it was a gift from the photography gods that had traveled across the Pacific to land at my feet right after my lens was soaked by a wave... some sort of divine lens cleaner from the great beyond delivered to me in a time of need. A cosmic piece of enlightened rubber and plastic blessed by the spirit of the great photographers that came before us... just for me.

Probably some dude dropped it on the beach a day before though. But I'm keeping it as my little miracle, dammit.

Blind luck allowed me to stumble upon this little composition in the dark one night. I saw it out of the corner of my eye as my head torch skimmed across this tiny little pool (about 8 inches across) that happened to mirror Olstinden in the background. Just goes to show you, even half-wits like myself can make a decent image every now and then just based on odds!

Really, Norway's Lofoten Islands have become one of my favorite places I have ever been. Arild Heitmann and I have another big tour available for next March where we will be shooting the crazy mountains of the Lofoten Islands with light and aurora, and hopefully with a little snow. It will fill fast, so check it out soon!

Finally home from almost a month in Norway. Holy crap, what a trip. The first half was spent leading one of the best tours I've ever led with my dear friend Arild Heitmann. The forecast looked pretty bad leading up to it, but at the last minute it changed, the skies cleared, and one of the best solar storms in the past decade gave us amazing shows 6 nights in a row. I honestly think some of the guys on the trip were starting to get bored with how much Aurora we got.

This is from one of the nights where we stayed out shooting and didn't get back to our cabins until after 3am. I even think some of the dudes stayed up for another hour or so to have celebratory beers after an epic night of shooting. Maniacs.

Arild and I have another big tour available for next March where we will be shooting the crazy mountains of the Lofoten Islands with light and aurora, but hopefully with a little more snow! It will fill fast, so check it out soon!

An autumn sunrise over Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park.

I recently released a new post-processing instructional video. It's packed with some unique techniques and theories about processing you may not find anywhere else. People seem to really be enjoying the videos and have had nothing but great things to say, so I *think* they are helping people... it's been awesome to see the many before/after shots people have been emailing me. Be sure to check the videos out if you are into that sort of thing. It's all on my website, as well as more photos, photo tour info, processing instruction via Skype like everyone else is doing, etc, etc.

Please view large yall, thanks!

Wow, been a stretch since I last posted. Lots of personal stuff has happened since summer, some bad, some good... but none the less it took me away from my camera for a while.

I havent shot hardly anything since summer time, which is a bummer, so I'd thought I'd pull out an old one for you guys.

Lots of thanks to everyone who emailed or called when I fell off the map there for a bit... I appreciate the support while I tried to put life back together again! I owe apologies to a couple people too, you know who you are.

Enough sappy shit. Somebody welcome me back from my hiatus...

seriously, do it before I throw a tantrum.
