Some stormy light over a frozen lake in the Lofoten Islands of Norway.

This one time, almost ten years ago, I broke through the ice on a frozen lake while hiking around in the Sierras by myself scouting compositions. I remember two distinct things from that event. First, it wasn’t just cold... it was painfully frigid. Like being stabbed by a thousand knives while simultaneously suffocating. Good times. Second, I very literally pissed my pants while trying to climb out. I remember thinking “oh, that’s really cool to do on top of everything else I’m going through” but I couldn’t control it, so I just let it happen. ‍♂️

You can learn how I edited this image, and all of my images, at the link in my bio. 👍👍

Another image from my travels this summer. Nothing really groundbreaking here... just a pretty picture. I do, however, like to make these type of "pretty pictures" more than anything else!

This was a fantastic morning I had running around Logan Pass in the pre-dawn light with my friend Haley. The light this morning was pretty sweet. In this shot, I was really quite taken with the way the light broke through a sliver in the clouds to light up only the mid-section of Reynolds Mountain. The falling rain also gave the distance a soft atmospheric feel. I felt the creek, subtle blooms of Heather, and the sweeping midground kind of tied everything together. Like I said... nothing groundbreaking, but I enjoy this one.

Processing consisted of a 2 exposure blend for dynamic range, color work in ACR (namely the foliage), texture work (increases and decreases), dodging and burning, hand-painted in some subtle color work for hues and saturation, luminosity masks.... pretty much it. Maybe 45min of work... not bad.

Anyways, hope you guys dig it! I've got quite a few more to share from this summer... and even some stuff from last winter I didn't get around to posting.

Peep my profile for the addy to my website... lots more images, prints, workshop info, stock licesning... blah blah blah.

Here's another shot from my only decent morning of shooting on TDH Mountain, out of 15 or so attempts. It was actually great to finally get something halfway decent after spending an incredibly cold and windy night in my tent just 50ft away.

I wanted to throw this one up to see which you prefer, this one, or the original in the link www.flickr.com/photos/ryandyar/4482287270/sizes/o/

They are pretty similar, with just slight compositional differences and minor processing changes. I was also able to fix more of the wind blurred trees in this new one.

Would love to hear your opinions either way. Thanks everyone!

I’ve deemed this little spot in Norway’s Lofoten Islands as “Camera Killer Beach” because, well, I think the name says it all. I’ve seen about a dozen cameras perish on this little edge of a fjord over the past four years, although none of them mine. Wait, one of them was mine (my backup camera body) but I loaned it to my bff Arild Heitmann since his met it’s maker a few days before. He gave it a bath here in a tidal pool (I always call his shooting style “full contact photography”) but technically that’s not my fault, so we won’t count it! Learn how I process my images at the link in my bio! 👍

An autumn sunrise over Two Medicine Lake in Glacier National Park.

I recently released a new post-processing instructional video. It's packed with some unique techniques and theories about processing you may not find anywhere else. People seem to really be enjoying the videos and have had nothing but great things to say, so I *think* they are helping people... it's been awesome to see the many before/after shots people have been emailing me. Be sure to check the videos out if you are into that sort of thing. It's all on my website, as well as more photos, photo tour info, processing instruction via Skype like everyone else is doing, etc, etc.
