The count’s seals are attached to both parts of this document known as a chirograph: a document written in duplicate on the same parchment. The text is cut perfectly in two through the sentence “CY RO GRA PHUS” and was given to both parties of the agreement, i.e. the count and the city of Sint-Truiden.
Note the sword being attached to the count’s body by a chain, possibly indicating a coat-of-plates worn over the hauberk and under the surcoat. Ailettes are worn on the shoulders. Also note the large mantle falling down from the great helm’s crest. The cone-shaped crest is decorated with the coat of arms of Loon and the two barbels of Chiny placed against it.
The coats of arms of Loon, ‘barry of 10 Or and gules’ and Chiny, ‘gules crusily fitchy two barbels addorsed Or’, are depicted impaled (divided) on the count’s shield, surcoat, saddle and the horse’s caparison and crest.
