On the Island of Floreanna we found a small flock of American Flamingos. As luck will have it I was shooting a group which was sitting on eggs. in this clip I collected 43 frames I captured aiming to select a few but when I realized they were incubating eggs I strung them all together. the eggs are shown with blue circles- one per nest. Note how the hens fluff their feathers when sitting on the egg. Then, on the right side, you can briefly see a newly hatched baby- with a straight beak. you can rewind the clip to 0:13/-0.07 to see this frame (there are 2 frames per second). An older chick i sleeping on the lower left in all the frames (gray feathers). the next image in my photo stream (in comments) is a very heavy crop of a slightly older chick.

These magnificent birds flew close enough to render the 200-500 zoom useless... related to pigeons of all birds, these graceful flamingos have relatives living in southern Europe and in the African Rift Valley. Their tongue has brought the European population to the brink of extension- the romans loved to dine on the muscular appendage.
