Sometimes, I post about an experience, not just the image. And this series is about an unusual sequence of events...It started with another photographer detecting a skunk trotting towards us way out up on a trail, before the short eared owls started flying. The three of us took our positions at the head of the trail. Focusing on the incoming skunk with the equivalent of a 1200mm lens (600+1.4x+1.6x DX chip), I did not notice the incoming harrier examining the skunk from a few feet above it. when it entered the fame, my tracking remained locked on the subject (skunk) resulting in lots of unfocused harrier shots. the harrier landed in the frozen shrubs, looked at the skunk, and then took off. I got them both when the bird got into the takeoff position. This skunk was in a hurry and could not care less about the bird.

Harrier flying right at me... and I could not keep it in the frame. The focusing stuck to the face thought!
