This near threatened bird appears to be in a cage. It is a wild protected bird on it's nest on the shores of Lake Huron. There were five nesting pairs. The beach area where they nest is fenced off to keep people out. The nests are covered with a net tent to keep predators off. Wikipedia lists the total population as 6,510 individuals.
Another first for me. This image is cropped at 50% and taken with a 1600 mm equivalent lens. We were quite far from the nest.
