We had some excitement at the Alberta Grain Terminal today. We had seen two prairie falcons and one gyrfalcon at the terminal. It was down to just Arron and I watching.
As we were about to leave, a prairie falcon came down over by the police building. It was unable to fly away. It hopped away from us and cornered itself between a chain link fence and the building. We decided to call our birding friend Don Delaney to lead a rescue attempt. Once Don arrived, we netted the bird and transferred it to a box and took it to the Edmonton Wildlife Rehab center. As you can see in the photo, it's right wing is fractured at the elbow. We hope it can be saved.
