Can't resist posting my Snowies! The featured capture was shot with 400/5.6 + 1.4x (= 540/8). Still fairly sharp even though I stopped down by a third. The white owl lacked contrast making the focus difficult. I used the fence post for my focus.

This is a captive owl displayed at Francis Viewing Point. According to Ray Cromie, this owl was hit by a car and is blind in one eye, so it cannot survive on its own.

I'm not a fan of photographing captive birds because it's not challenging enough in terms of photography. However, it was a great opportunity to expose the indented dark eyes with better detail, which is not easy with wild Barred Owls. It was also a great honor to listen to Ray Cromie's presentation.

Gerry B and I took a trip up north and we had a "great gray" day.

The leading shot is what we started with and the photo below is what we ended with for the day. Nice contrast in the weather eh! The lighting may be stale, but I think GGOw's look better in this sort of weather and lighting condition. Enjoy!
