In 1995 I went to Tokyo for the first time. I really had no idea what it was like and heavily influenced by Kurosawa's movies. I have been back at least another 12-13 times and it is still one of my favourite places. Nowadays we have friends there and we know a bit more about getting around. In 1995 I was there by myself, forever getting lost, taking pictures. It is that first heady trip that sets the tone for a place.

This is the "Shoshin" maker across from Shintaro and his dads studio. He has made several of the classic handheld lanterns for us. he also collects and uses old M42 thread lenses so I have reciprokated with Topogon 25's etc.

I did pick up a Kobalux 21f2.8 and the 28f2.8 on this my first trip to Japan/Tokyo. Pyro developed film and scanning does not seem to agree with each other all the time.

Strange decoration in the ceiling of a Ginza cafe'. The Kobalux 21 does show considerable flare here, but it was a very early one so maybe the later version held up better. They were a bit prone to having the large front element unscrewing too.

The Temple sites in Japan tends to be surrounded with rather tacky souvenir shops! here you have masks for Finnish "Moomin" and "Hello Kitty" as well as others.
