I caught this male House Finch singing in a tree on the grounds of the Radisson in New Rochelle, NY. The House Finch is native only to the western portion of the United States and Mexico, but was sold for a time as the "Hollywood Finch" in New York City in the 1940s. After being released in order to avoid prosecution, the population of House Finches have spread so that they now range across the lower 48 states.

This Decatur landmark was constructed in 1895 at he intersection of Main and Main, literally the center of town called Lincoln Square. It served as a shelter for passengers who were transferring from one streetcar line to another as the various lines circled around it and directly to the north, south, east, and west. In time, the streetcars were replaced with busses, but the transfer house remained until 1962 when it was removed to Central Park to accomodate a highway that ran through the intersection. Although it no longer serves its original function, it survives today as a park shelter.
