This building is used as a dormitory for Boston University and is home to a business called "Laundry Basket". A stroke of genius overtook the individual(s) who decided to expand the number of available apartments in this building by perching atop the original brownstones a structure that resembles a corrugated steel shack. It gives the overall building an air of elegance that cannot be matched by any other in Boston. I especially like the subtle touch of painting the lower floors gray in order to blend them in with the additional floors on top, creating a seamless whole that is pleasing to the eye. Doubtless this will forever remain a must-see for architecture buffs who visit Boston in the future.

This is now Delta's Terminal 3.
(2010/08/06) Although it will soon not be a terminal at all. On August 5th, the Port Authority approved a plan submitted by Delta that would involve expanding Terminal 4 and demolishing the original WorldPort structure and the 1970 addition, thereby dramatically increasing the traffic to this photograph in particular. During my most recent time of frequent travel some two years ago, I made sure to meander the oldest part of the terminal to examine its architecture and see what relics I could find of the past. There may be a Burger King situated on the second level, but you also see bullhorns and stairwells that date from an earlier era. The terminal is definitely outdated and outmoded, but while there is time, I encourage anyone to take a good look at it and imagine how striking it must have been in the beginning as it will soon be gone.

From the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge in the foreground, you can see Manhattan, Queens, and then Brooklyn and Jamaica Bay with the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

The fomer steel town of Steubenville, across from Weirton, WV, on the Ohio River, has produced an interestingly disparate number of famous people, including Dean Martin, Rollie Fingers, Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder, and Traci Lords, but it evident that the collapse of the steel industry has hit it as hard as any of the other steel towns in the Midwestern US.
This particular house is on a several-block stretch of some lovely Victorian houses along North 4th Street, some of which are kept up, but some look at dilapidated as this one.
