85mm f/1.8 USM; HDR

Shot from Kerry Park in Seattle, which happens to be my cousin's name (Kerry), which ultimately led me to the title. I've been planning on going to this vantage point for some photos lately, but it wasn't until tonight that I had both the motivation and the time to go check it out.

It was a great night for this shot, clear skies, not too cold or windy and the Seattle police hassling a drug dealer for expired tags. Turns out the kid had about 6 oz. of pot on his person, which was revealed shortly after the police pulled away with the kid saying how he was "sweatin' balls" about the whole situation. The officers went through the trouble of searching his car but didn't even bother to pat the kid down!

I use the term HDR loosely for this photo, since the original 32-bit HDR was downsampled to a 16-bit version using the local adaptation method and then further adjusted in Lightroom. After I had my 16-bit version it was time for the final tweaks, including but not limited to greyscale conversion, level adjustments, tone mapping and sharpening.

While I was there I took some bracketed exposures for some experimentation. I attempted to process a HDR panorama, though the end result was less than satisfactory. I have a feeling if I went back and tried again during the day I'd have much better luck.

Another decent shot from Kerry Park, this time thanks to my recently discontinued 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM zoom lens. While definitely not as impressive as some of the photos I've seen from this vantage point (ie: Evening Apocalypse), I think the time of day as well as the weather were in our favor as we stopped by on the last evening Jen was in town.

28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM; HDR

Another HDR shot from Kerry Park in Queen Anne, Seattle, WA across Eliott Bay facing south toward Harbor Island.

I'm not sure what it is, but there's definitely something tranquil about cityscapes at night despite all the hustling and bustling. As some of you may know I try to keep my life relatively low-key, so perhaps some of these dark city shots reflect the side of me that is always seeking this quality in my environment.

Explored!

85mm f/1.8 USM

Another shot from the C.O.R.E. Challenge in Monroe, WA on May 22, 2010. I was there with a co-worker and good buddy of mine, Jack. This duo of dudes was in line for a drag race through a mud bog. Plenty of mud to be had.

Explored!

28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM

Taken at the Lake Sammamish State Park in Sammamish, WA during some SQL training courses my team and I were taking during our lunch break. Jack and I usually ended up walking around the park after lunch to burn some of the calories off so we didn't fall asleep in training, it was good to get up and enjoy the weather as well.

We saw (and heard) a hawk, and it was awesome.
