Fluidr / Hangzhou - Six Harmonies (Landscape with Liu He Ta) by Andy Brandl (PhotonMix)

Octagonal shaped Six Harmonies Pagoda is Hangzhou´s oldest pagoda and was built to protect the city against the tidal bore / river god´s wrath (Hangzhou was flooded several times in the past) and as a navigational aid.

It is located at the foot of Yuelun Hill, facing the Qiantang River. It was originally constructed in 970 AD during the Northern Song dynasty (960–1127), destroyed in 1121, and reconstructed fully by 1165, during the Southern Song dynasty (1127–1279).
