Chrysanthemum flowers.
This tub of Chrysanthemum (I never can type that quickly lol) flowers is about six feet from where I sit just now. The image was taken about six weeks ago when they were in full (if foolish for the time of year) flow.
I liked the patterns and wanted to try something I've been thinking of for a while now. I was looking to get just the emerging petals emerging from a plain background. I'd seen a similar effect in a flower picture created in Lightroom by my friend
m_laRs_k.
In terms of processing it was really quite simple to do, just two layers. I used the picture layer and placed a plain dark blue fill layer underneath it. I then used the Advanced Blending options to set a blend range in the picture layer - this has the effect of only allowing pixels with a certain range of brightnesses to appear - the rest are replaced by the underlying layer (i.e. the blue).
I'll link the in-camera original in the first comment so you can see how far we came.
Thank you for taking the time to look. I hope you enjoy the image.
