El Alcázar de Segovia, pese a su apariencia de palacio de cuento de hadas, es uno de los castillos que a lo largo de la historia de España, más expuesto ha estado a continuas luchas y desastres.
El origen de esta imponente fortificación se encuentra en los antiguos celtas, que ya poblaron la colina donde hoy se encuentra el casco antiguo de Segovia. Con la llegada de los romanos, esta fortificación fue adaptada, aunque sería completamente abandonada entre los siglos IX y XI, junto al resto de la ciudad, con la invasión árabe.
La repoblación de Segovia comenzó entre finales del siglo XI y principios del siglo XII. Con ella la prosperidad llegó a la ciudad, y gracias a ello la construcción del Alcázar sobre las ruinas de la antigua fortificación, lo convirtieron en el majestuoso palacio que es hoy día.

The Alcázar de Segovia, despite its appearance as a fairy tale palace, is one of the castles that throughout Spain's history, the most exposed has been to continuous struggles and disasters.
The origin of this imposing fortification is found in the ancient Celts, who already populated the hill where today is the old town of Segovia. With the arrival of the Romans, this fortification was adapted, although it would be completely abandoned between the IX and XI centuries, along with the rest of the city, with the Arab invasion.
The repopulation of Segovia began between the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 12th century. With it prosperity came to the city, and thanks to it the construction of the Alcázar on the ruins of the old fortification, that turned it into the majestic palace that is today.
