Tower Bridge: el puente más famoso sobre el Támesis en Londres.
La construcción del Tower Bridge duró ocho años y contó con la colaboración de cinco contratistas y la labor incesante de 432 obreros. Dos enormes pilares en el lecho del río sujetan la construcción. Se utilizaron más de 11.000 toneladas de acero para el armazón de las torres y las pasarelas, un armazón recubierto elegantemente de granito de Cornualles y piedra de Portland.
Las dos torres están unidas por unas pasarelas peatonales pensadas para atravesar el río cuando el puente se eleva para dejar paso a los barcos. Aunque en 1910 éstas se cerraron al público. En la actualidad están totalmente cubiertas por protección, pero con telescopios para disfrutar de las fantásticas vistas.
Con motivo de las Olimpiadas de 2012 el puente recibió un lavado de cara, y hoy vemos reluciente la pintura azul de sus arcos metálicos.

The construction of Tower Bridge lasted eight years and involved the collaboration of five contractors and the relentless labor of 432 workers. Two enormous pillars in the bed of the river hold the construction. More than 11.000 tons of steel used for the framework of the towers and the gangplanks a framework covered elegantly with granite of Cornwall and Portland's stone.
The two towers are linked by a pedestrian gateways designed to cross the river when the bridge is raised to make way for boats. But in 1910 these were closed to the public. Today they are fully covered for protection, but with telescopes to enjoy the fantastic views.
On the occasion of the 2012 Olympics the bridge received a facelift, and today we see very shining the blue painting of his metallic arches.
