This was an experiment to get the owl and moon in a single exposure.

Much of it was guess work so luck was always going to play a part.

The camera was set up in a field and fired remotely from my shed.

I had a test run the previous night to see how long it took the moon to travel from left to right through the frame.

I set the camera focussed on the perch with the moon just entering the frame. It takes about 10 minutes for the moon to reach this point. That's about how long it usually takes for owl to arrive on its favourite perch once I have disappeared.

It was several minutes before the owl put in an appearance. I took a shot as soon as it landed. I have photographed this owl many times and, as expected, it ignored the flashes.

Not being able to see through the view finder, I had no idea if I had managed to get the shot until I retrieved the camera.
