THE UNINVITED GUEST

I had decided to have one last go at the dwindling number of small birds coming to the feeders.

With more daylight hours and warmer weather, they are more concerned with finding a mate and nest building.

I set up this blackthorn perch next to a feeder and the birds were straight back in. I hadn't even got the camera set up when the birds scattered and five metres away this young male Sparrowhawk was perched.

I managed a few hand held shots while those mad yellow eyes searched for a target.

Over the last few months I have worked hard on building an album of Sparrowhawk shots. To get one by accident almost seems like cheating, but you can't have too many shots of these fabulous birds so I'll take them anyway I can.
