The curves of the Yellowstone River around Calcite Springs at the base of Bumpus Butte along with the complimenting curls and curves of this ponderosa pine tree root along the cliff caught my eye.

Enjoy this last weekend of April!
We've gone from low 50's early this week to 80's this weekend. A/C tested and working good....

A view of the lower section of Glacier Park's Swiftcurrent Falls taken on a cloudy autumn day. This channel really roars with a torrent of water earlier in the year, slow flow now. I also liked the autumn colors and varied textures around it. Heavy rain soon arrived.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Runoff at Yellowstone's Firehole Spring on it's way to the Firehole River. The mix of colors and textures fascinate and captivate me. I spent a few years as a microbiologist/chemist long ago. The small world is a mind bender.
More examples in comments.

"The hydrothermal features of Yellowstone are magnificent evidence of Earth’s volcanic activity. Amazingly, they are also habitats in which microscopic organisms called thermophiles—“thermo” for heat, “phile” for lover—survive and thrive."
ps: I like it when you call me Phil.

"Species, unseen to the human eye, thrive in waters as acidic as the liquid in your car battery and hot enough to blister your skin. Some create layers that look like molten wax on the surface of steaming alkaline pools. Still others, apparent to us through the odors they create, exist only in murky, sulfuric caldrons that stink worse than rotten eggs.

Today, many scientists study Yellowstone’s thermophiles. Some of these microbes are similar to the first life forms capable of photosynthesis—the process of using sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide to oxygen, sugars, and other by-products. These life forms, called cyanobacteria, began to create an atmosphere that would eventually support human life. Cyanobacteria are found in some of the colorful mats and streamers of Yellowstone’s hot springs." nps.gov

Thanks for your visit. Always appreciated!

To all veterans of all branches: Thank you for your sacrifice, your bravery, and the example you set for us all. To all those who have served, and those who continue to serve… Happy Veterans Day!

Shown is the upper machine gun turret on the B17 Madras Maiden, taken when this rare plane visited Spokane.

When I turned 18 I was up for the draft as the Vietnam War was raging on. Rather than dodge bullets I enlisted in Rickover's Navy nuclear engineering program, getting a great education I later served as a nuke on 2 boomer submarines, deep underwater for a total of 577 days safe from any bullets. Was quite a unique experience. Was hard but joining the Navy was one of the best decisions I ever made. Came out a better man. And as it turned out I would have been drafted...my number came up.

We celebrate our veterans in America on this date. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

"In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks from Birmingham, Alabama, had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who died in World War I. Weeks led a delegation to Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, who supported the idea of National Veterans Day. Congress amended the bill on June 1, 1954, replacing "Armistice" with "Veterans," and it has been known as Veterans Day since." Wiki

A black and white depiction of the chute the Kicking Horse river flows thru on it's way thru Yoho Park's Natural Bridge.
I admired the mix of water and basalt textures.

"The River’s unusual name stems from an incident near Wapta Falls in August 1858, Sir James Hector writes:

"A little way above this fall one of our pack horses, to escape the fallen timber, plunged into the river, luckily where it formed an eddy, but the banks were so steep that we had great difficulty in getting him out. In attempting to recatch my own horse, which had strayed off while we were engaged with the one in the water, he kicked me in the chest, but I had luckily got close to him before he struck out, so that I did not get the full force of the blow. However, it knocked me down and rendered me senseless for some time. This was unfortunate, as we had seen no tracks of game in the neighbourhood, and were now without food; but I was so hurt that we could not proceed further that day at least." - James Hector chronicles, 1858" Wiki

May your day be wonderful!
