An inviting strand of sand runs out a ways in BC's colorful Muncho Lake. Felt like walking on water when out toward the end.

Unlike most of the northern lakes this pretty color wasn't a result of glacial rock flour. The jade green color of the lake is attributed to the presence of copper oxide leached from the bedrock underneath. Many consider this the most beautiful lake on the AlCan highway.

Thanks for taking a look!

Found this pair of Wood Bison along the AlCan Highway years ago in northern BC.

I'm a big bison fan. They are my favorite critter in Yellowstone. I've been around them often, sometimes fairly close on the roads. But this bull and cow....look at his shoulders, chest and hump. Noticeably larger.

"Unregulated hunting in the 1800s nearly wiped them out, and by the middle of the 20th century some thought the animals were extinct. But then, in 1957, a small herd was found in a remote part of Alberta by the crew of a plane flying overhead. Since then, their numbers have rebounded to around 11,000 in Canada, as governmental organizations have helped breed and repatriate them to a few parts of their former range.

PS: some of you have noticed my lens was at 180. Yes, pretty near them. Was a lucky shot driving the AlCan, a herd was gathered along the highway. I just pulled over, dropped the window, said hi and click. Little risk.
However, they sadly hang near this high speed highway and some are killed each year from driver's not paying attention.

The wood bison differs from the plains bison, the other surviving North American subspecies/ecotype, in a number of important ways. Most notably, the wood bison is heavier, with large males weighing over 900 kilograms (2,000 lb), making it the largest terrestrial animal in North America. The highest point of the wood bison is well ahead of its front legs, while the plains bison's highest point is directly above the front legs. Wood bison also have larger horn cores, a darker and woollier pelage, and less hair on their forelegs and beard." Wikipedia

May they thrive and prosper.

Have a great weekend!

A windy storm building above an overflow pond along northern British Columbia's Toad river.

"The name derives historically from Hudson's Bay Company employees using the Liard River to reach the Northern Interior of British Columbia. It is likely a name given by Robert Campbell on his trips up river to Fort Halkett and Dease Lake during the 1830s. A Hudson's Bay trading post was established here in 1867." Wikipedia

Musta been a lot of big toads nearby.

Have a wonderful weekend!

A small waterfall along the Rancheria river in The Yukon.

"The Yukon, formerly called Yukon Territory is the smallest and westernmost of Canada's three territories. It also is the least populated province or territory in Canada, with a population of 35,874 people as of the 2016 Census. Whitehorse, the territorial capital, is the largest settlement in any of the three territories.

Yukon was split from the North-West Territories in 1898 as the Yukon Territory. The federal government's Yukon Act, which received royal assent on March 27, 2002, established Yukon as the territory's official name, though Yukon Territory is still popular. In 2021, territorial government policy was changed so that “The Yukon” would be recommended for use in official territorial government materials." Wikipedia

While enjoying the beauty of Yukon's Kluane Lake this unique rig pulled in. What a special camper! I enjoyed visiting with Guillaume and Jenna about their home on the road. They were now living in this small home and experiencing the wide and wild world instead of the usual big home, mortgage and debts. They had built it from scratch themselves. It didn't seem that large on the outside but was quite homey, cozy and comfy on the inside. In many ways nicer and more comfy and complete than my modern truck camper. Impressive trailer and very impressive couple.

Further down the AlCan Highway thru the Donjek and White river sections were the worst roads I've ever experienced. A nightmare driving the dozens of miles of deep deep potholes that could not be avoided. 5-10 mph max without losing teeth. Was worried that their tiny home would shake apart, but was glad to see on line that they did indeed build it strong and sturdy and toured Alaska.

FYI, just google the title and you'll find much information about them and their journeys.

Wouldn't that be a tempting way to experience life?
