The most common butterfly gracing my yard. Perched here on a celosia plant.

"Swallowtail butterflies are large, colorful butterflies in the family Papilionidae, and include over 550 species. Though the majority are tropical, members of the family inhabit every continent except Antarctica. The family includes the largest butterflies in the world, the birdwing butterflies." Wikipedia

Enjoy a wonderful weekend!

Spokane's Manito Park covers 90 acres comprised of five major garden areas (the Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden, Duncan Garden, Rose Hill, Lilac Garden and Ferris Perennial Garden), Manito Park is nationally recognized for its diverse horticultural displays.

Duncan Garden was originally called the Sunken Garden, created when Manito’s first superintendent hauled out 42,500 wagon loads of dirt that were used in the gardens of all the city’s parks. The formal garden was designed and built in 1912 by John Duncan, Manito’s second superintendent. The garden was designed in a classical European Renaissance style with a central water feature and geometrical planting beds. The garden spans three acres and includes colorful annual bedding plants and more than 20 plants species. To celebrate Manito’s centennial in 2004, a gazebo was constructed at the south end of the garden.

Thanks for taking a look!

A couple fly fishermen try their luck with flies at the Bowl and Pitcher area of the Spokane river not far from downtown.

A productive fishery for rainbow trout, the Spokane River near the city is an excellent spot for fly anglers looking to escape the crowds.

Thanks for taking a look!

One of the beautiful botanical scenes in Spokane's Manito Park.

"The Nishinomiya Tsutakawa Japanese Garden was completed in 1974 and symbolizes the friendship of Spokane and its sister city, Nishinomiya, Japan. The well-known Japanese landscape architect, Nagao Sakurai, who at one time was in charge of the Imperial Palace grounds, was enlisted to design the garden."

Enjoy a wonderful Sunday and week ahead!

A b/w view of one of the two waterfalls that flows by Canada Island.

The Spokane River Falls are Spokane’s finest natural attraction, as well as the heart of Riverfront Park. Located in the core of Spokane, the falls of the Spokane River flow and often rage as the seasons change. The Spokane River flows from Lake Coeur d’Alene to Lake Roosevelt and the Spokane Falls are perhaps the most dramatic transition along the 111 mile run.

From the earliest of times, the Spokane Falls were a gathering place for the Spokane Tribe of Indians as a source of food and beauty. Many generations later the falls became a gathering place for all nations with EXPO 74 World's Fair and is still shared daily by people from around the world.

The town was originally founded as "Spokan Falls."
The city's name is drawn from the American Indian tribe known as the Spokane, which means "Children of the Sun" in Salishan.

After The Great Fire of 1889 and the rebuilding of the downtown, the city was reincorporated under the present name of "Spokane" in 1891. Not sure why they did that. Wish they would return to the original name, Spokane Falls.

Enjoy a terrific Thursday!
