Looking SW at two of Oregon's 3 Sisters: Middle and North peaks.
Each of the Sisters are more than 10,000 feet (3,000 m) in elevation. They are the third-, fourth- and fifth-highest peaks in Oregon. Among the most active volcanic areas in the Cascades and one of the most densely populated volcanic centers in the world. The Three Sisters region includes nearby peaks such as Belknap Crater, Mount Washington, Black Butte, and Three Fingered Jack to the north, and Broken Top and Mount Bachelor to the south." Wikipedia

Imposing Mt. Rainier looms in the distance above Tipsoo Lake.
"Mount Rainier is ranked third of the 128 ultra-prominent mountain peaks of the United States. Denali and Mauna Kea are taller from their base. Mount Rainier has a topographic prominence of 13,210 ft (4,026 m), which is greater than that of K2, the world's second-tallest mountain, at 13,189 ft (4,020 m). With 26 major glaciers and 36 sq mi (93 km2) of permanent snowfields and glaciers, Mount Rainier is the most heavily glaciated peak in the lower 48 states." Wiki

This pine seed drifted to a really harsh spot to sprout, but is standing tall and surviving in Oregon's Newberry Volcanic Monument, not far from Lava Butte along the Trail of the Molten Lands. A fascinating region full of captivating geology and history.
Framing this lone pine is Mt. Bachelor, S Sister, Broken Top, Middle Sister. Volcanoes all.
Have a wonderful week!

With close-up views of the massive Emmons Glacier, and hundreds of acres of meadows bursting with wildflowers; Sunrise rivals the more popular Paradise when it comes to scenic splendor. And situated in the park’s drier northeastern corner thanks to Mount Rainier’s rain-shadow effect, Sunrise as the name suggests is also one of the first places in the park to capture morning’s early light.
This morning was special as the skies lit up beautifully with a rosy glow for a spell.
The peak to the left is Tahoma peak. Little Tahoma Peak, also called Little Tahoma, is a satellite peak of Mount Rainier. It is a volcanic remnant. It was part of a larger Mount Rainier which has eroded. If considered on its own, Little Tahoma would be the third-highest peak in Washington.
Happy Friday!

Mt. Bachelor looming above Oregon's snow-covered Elk Lake.
Another "cool" image for a hot summer day. Walking thru the snow and slush this day is a refreshing memory.
Mount Bachelor is so called because it "stands apart" from the Three Sisters, a group of three volcanic mountains that are northwest of Mount Bachelor.
Mount Bachelor ski area operates a chairlift during the summer as well as during the ski season making it the only major Cascade volcano with a chairlift to the summit. Nationally known, the resort is one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
