A view of the parking lot at Palouse Falls and the canyon downstream of the falls. Thought I'd share a different perspective of this special place.

A view of the falls just to the left of this image in comments.

RV's aren't allowed here, however since my truck camper takes up no more room than a long bed truck I could spend the night here. Was wonderful.

Taken in October, when the flow was low. Really roars through here this time of year.

The Palouse river continues a short ways up the canyon till it tumbles over the much more impressive Palouse Falls.

Images below continue the journey.

Weeks half over! Have a wonderful Wednesday!

This is a significant honor, as Washington has hundreds of beautiful waterfalls.....

An autumn capture of this special falls. Always thrilling to visit here and walk the edge.

The Palouse river drops 187 feet into this rugged plunge pool.

"The canyon at the falls is 115 meters (377 feet) deep, exposing a large cross-section of the Columbia River Basalt Group. These falls and the canyon downstream comprise an important feature of the channeled scablands created by the great Missoula Floods that swept periodically across eastern Washington and across the Columbia River Plateau during the Pleistocene epoch."

“Discovered” in 1841 by the famous Wilkes Expedition, they recorded the falls on their maps with the original, native name "Aputaput." Later, the name was changed to commemorate the Palouse Indian culture. Now Palouse Falls is the Official Washington State waterfall.

The Palouse river tumbles 198 feet to the plunge pool below. This shot was taken in the fall, when the flow was low. Really roars in the spring. Still had a sweet song.

An October slot shot of this dry land waterfall.

When one thinks of Washington state they probably think of greens, as in Evergreen State, with our amazing rainforests and millions of acres of trees. However we have our arid dry regions as well.

The Palouse river originates in Idaho in the Hoodoo Mountains. The river flows for 167 miles (269 km) southwestwards, primarily through the Palouse region of southeastern Washington. It flows into the Snake river, then the Columbia river.

Many have heard of the Palouse region with its beautiful rolling farmland. It is some of the richest soil on earth for grains, wheats and legumes. The Palouse has become a destination for photographers with all its variety of options.

Happy Friday!
