Great Horned Owl ~ (Bubo virginianus)

The sun had just gone over the horizon, and the blues, purples and pinks emerged . The Great horned Owls briefly perched together at the top of a tree, and I liked how the tufts were sticking up against the colors of the sky (Those tufts are called plumicorns, which I love).

Anhinga ~ (Anhinga anhinga)

I was photographing wading birds at water level when this Anhinga breached the surface with a sunfish. It almost appeared to display the catch as a trophy - allowing it glisten in the sunlight for a few seconds before gulping it down. Very easy to see why the Anhinga is colloquially called the 'snake bird'.

Northern Harrier ~ (Circus cyaneus)

A Northern Harrier banks in flight as it hunts over the marsh. It effortlessly manages the wind and the the thermals. It's all about energy conservation and stealth. As it glides, it's owl-like face is typically facing downward as it looks and listens for small animals in the grasses.

Osprey ~ (Pandion haliaetus)

Osprey with the one-taloned catch.
Put yourself in the place of the fish for a moment - swimming along and minding your own business. Doing fish things. All of a sudden a tremendous SPLASH and six sharp pointy objects descend on you. Moments later you are fifty feet above the water and on your way to becoming lunch.
