Approaching Singapore. We're only half way and another two flights to take.

We have entered the dark part of the year, which makes driving Ardnamurchan's single track roads a lonely affair at night, through the forests and along the sea loch sides. Tonight I've moved on from listening to ABBA to another Swedish band called "First Aid Kit" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Aid_Kit_(band). The track is called Emmylou
It's along roads like this that you risk colliding with a deer or driving off the edge of the road and disappearing. Carrying an emergency kit in the car doesn't seem such a bad idea in case you get stranded in the dark. In contemplating what to put in it, a decent torch was a no-brainer. But my daughter's neighbour surprised me by suggesting an axe. OK, being the jumpy sort I am I would prefer a high powered rifle or automatic shotgun, to fight off the ghosts and ghouls that would descend on me if I was lost in the dark forest, and an axe doesn't really cut it with me for that. Although many carry a chain saw in the back ready for fallen trees they encounter or to chop the antlers off a stag they have crashed into. I think I need a prayer book too.

For those so enthralled by the NC500, why not try the A861 from Corran ferry to Strontian instead? Nice flowing curves: stunning scenery: light traffic......and just one motor home thingy

So whilst the rest of the country enjoys a heatwave I head out west to the beach on a grey, dreich day. This is the road from Salen towards Kilchoan where it runs through our ancient Caledonian rainforest alongside Loch Sunart. It's a narrow, twisty, up and downy road which tests your reactions, when meeting oncoming traffic round blind bends. You should try it in winter in the dark with deer to contend with too. I love a bit of speed but here even 35 mph feels fast enough....
The music is Effie's choice. An unwilling passenger, she says it calms her nerves. Take a chance on me???

It's the view from the back of our house. I'm just waiting for the snow on the mountains, a few deer romping in the foreground, N LGBTQQ+ rainbow or two and then the scene will be set.
