The village of Trnski Odorovci is located at the foot of the mountains Greben and Vlaška planina in the municipality of Dimitrovgrad.. A few decades ago, there were 300 households with more than 5 residents, rarely there were less than 5 people in one house. It is divided into smaller hamlets: Krajište,Kostol,Selište,Bremenjak,Zaje dnica,Varničije,Stanica,Tunel,Djurinci, Markovci,Ložište,Mišinci,Milka,Bobovi šte,Selo,Ječarnik,Čukar,Drenje... Last weekend I visited hamlet Zajednica to meet and photograph the last residents of the village. Zajednica recently had 7 households. Most of the people were old and they died in a short period of time. Today, there are 3 households with 2 people in each house. I took a portrait of Staniško in his room and later he asked me if I could take one more picture of him in front of his house, which has a breathtaking view of Greben (right) and Vlaška planina (left). It is heart-breaking seeing people living on the margins of society, forgotten by everyone. No matter how life was rough to him, you can still see the soul shining through his eyes. To me, it is very important to show society that those people exist and that they are a mirror of it. |
