Comet PanSTARRS has faded from magnitude 0 in March to magnitude 9, a difference of 4,000 times in brightness. However, it is positioned nearly due north in the constellation Ursa Minor, which makes it easy to find and easy to track, as it's motion is relatively slow compared to objects near the ecliptic. Since it is farther from earth, its motion relative to the stars has slowed as well, making it an easier target to image. This is a stack of images taken with a 500mm lens riding piggyback on the telescope, which was used for tracking. The two tails are a dust tail that trails the comet as it moves through space and an ion tail that points away from the sun.
