Oak Treehopper (Platycotis vittata) female watches over a group of nymphs. Salem, Oregon - August, 2016
On an unrelated note - but still relating to macro/spiders - I just posted a video discussing spider myths and misconceptions here:

A beautifully patterned salticid found by an attendee of the 2016 Peru Bugshot in Tambopata, Peru. I spotted a few other similarly marked specimens in the area I suspect with other Phiale species - although I have read they can be quite variable.
A dream made real by the Maddisons! Collected by Wayne in the Wallowas and gifted by David. I've been pining for a chance to see this species for years - even buying a stamp years ago: www.flickr.com/photos/49580580@N02/5303717105
Easily one of the most charismatic salticids of the Pacific Northwest - if not all of America! A fitting name for such a fantastically handsome Habronattus species!
Shot with Pentax K-S2 and a 55mm macro on a focusing teleconverter. Cropped a bit too.

I never get tired of these giant female Phidippus audax - such familial faces but they never get old! Seeing quite a few now that spring has come! This specimen was actually brought to me by visiting arachnologists I spent the afternoon with - check out their work here: spiderbytes.org/ and here: ibycter.com/

Join me, Alex Wild, and John Abbott for our Bugshot macro photography workshop held at Refugio Amazonas in Peru and learn the everything you ever wanted to know about macro photography!
I can't tell you how excited I am to co-instruct alongside these talented photographers and entomologists. The last few BugShot trips have proved to be awesome experiences and I think everyone (including myself) was astounded by the volume and diversity of arthropod life ito be found. Peru is really a macro photographer's dream location - the place is literally crawling with beautiful arthropods everywhere.
Here's a small set of just *some* of the amazing life to be found in the jungles of Peru taken by Nicky Bay: www.flickr.com/photos/nickadel/sets/72157659531826285
