Location of Apollo 15 landing site, one of the most scientifically successful Apollo missions.
The site was just adjacent to the sinuous groove known as the Hadley Rille as seen in the picture. This is located in a valley within the eastern reaches of the Montes Appenninus mountain range.

The great crater Copernicus (bottom left, 93km) has a ray system that extends as far as 800km from the crater.
Crater Eratosthenes (59km) can be seen in the centre with the Montes Appennius mountain range to the east. The Apollo 15 landing site is located on the eastern reaches of this range which I'm highlighting in a separate crop.

Crater Eratosthenes (59km) is named after the father of geography and a chief librarian at the Library of Alexandria.
Eratosthenes famously made a shockingly accurate calculation of the Earth's diameter to within 15% of the true value more than 2200 years ago!
East is to the top of this picture and the Montes Appennius can be seen extending away from Eratosthenes eastward.
Mosaic of 2 panels.
